Determinants and effects of perceived walkability: a literature review, conceptual model and research agenda

For decades, accessibility – i.e. the ease of reaching destinations has been an important concept in transport planning, resulting many studies trying to measure it and put into practice. Also walkability, a mode-specific type referring how easy is walk (to destinations) received increased attention last two decades. In recent years, new focus on people perceive their as this may be stronger predictor travel behaviour than objective elements (such built environment characteristics). Perceived walk-friendly experience certain area, however, only explored by limited number studies. review paper, we give overview existing analysing perceived which mostly have focused its effects walking frequency/duration, physical activity various aspects mental well-being. Based literature review, conceptual model created, emphasising determinants walkability related walkability. We end paper providing avenues for further research, including introduction Short Walkability Scale (SPWS) recommendations data collection analysis. Doing so can create insights links with elements, therefore contribute stimulating trips improving these trips.
